Ø Say it helps spread fake news
The nineteen northern governors, under the aegis of the Northern Governors Forum, (NGF), as well as first-class Emirs from the North have expressed support for the on-going demand to regulate the social media in the country,in order to check the spread of fake news.
The Forum expressed its support in a communique issued by its Chairman, the governor of Plateau, Simon Lalong, after its meeting behind closed doors in Kaduna with first-class traditional rulers and other key stakeholders in the region.
At the meeting yesterday, the governors said the effect of uncontrolled social media is devastating. They also condemned the “subversive” actions of some #EndSARS protesters, saying some people took advantage of peaceful protest to push their “separatist agenda”.
The northern governors also vowed to keep Nigeria one, declaring that the unity of the country was non-negotiable and condemned the protests, which they claimed was meant to remove President Buhari from office.
Part of the communique of the northern leaders issued after the meeting and read by Lalong, commended the National Assembly and the Presidency for being pro-active in addressing the issues of the #EndsSARS protests across the country and also announced that the governors are committed to ensuring that Nigeria remains one and never breaks up.
The meeting was also attended by Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, and some other members of the National Assembly, as well as by President Buhari’s Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari, and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Adamu.
